Professor at São Paulo University, Brazil

Ricardo Magnus Osório Galvão was born on the 21st of December, in Itajubá, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. He graduated in electrical engineering at the Fluminense Federal University, Brazil, in 1969, and obtained the doctoral degree in applied plasma physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, in 1976. He is specialized in nuclear fusion research.
He is currently professor of applied physics at the University of São Paulo, having previously been Director of the Brazilian Centre for Physics Research and Director of Brazilian Institute for Space Research, Brazil.
He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and has received many international awards and accolades, in particular the 2021 AAAS Scientific Freedom and Responsibility Award.
